C5 V6 specification

Unread post by xantia_v6 »

I am thinking of replacing my current Xantia V6 with something with fewer miles.

My first choice would be another Xantia V6, but they are as hard to find (in nice condition) as ever.

There seem to be more C5 V6s around, and the early ones seem to be the same price as Xantia V6s.

I have not been able to find a brochure on-line, and I would like to understand the spec better (specifically for 2002-3 V6 models). Are all C5 V6s built to Exclusive spec? Do they all have H3+ suspension? For a UK market C5 V6 Are there any options in the spec level, and how do I spot them if looking at a car? Does the Estate have the same trim level as the hatch?

Other than the cost of Road Tax, is there any disadvantage in upgrading from Xantia to C5 (I do 90% of my car servicing myself)?

Obviously a C5 is a 'newer' design and some would argue therefore better.. but, I think an Exclusive Xantia is better value than an Exclusive C5. I suppose it depends on what you want from your car/ what is important to you.

I just looked a 2002 C5 V6 Exclusive Estate. Seemed to good to be true, 42000 miles, less than £1500.

I have deep suspicions about the "documented" mileage. The brake pedal was worn as much as my Xantia's at 132000, the drivers carpet was worn, the rubberised coating was coming off the door pull, and the steering wheel leather was badly worn (looked worse than mine, but maybe C5 wheels don't last as well.

It did not help that the service light was on, and there was a nasty little ticking sound from the engine (which reduced when it was warm).

Maybe it has been driven very slowly for 42000 miles???

I know there will be a better bargain around the corner.
