Xantia Alarm Problem

My Xantia 1.9TD 1994 had been standing for 2 months and the battery was flat so I put the battery on charge overnight. I reconnected the battery and then after the heater lights went out turned the key and she fired up straight away. The problem is that the alarm has the lights flashing all the time while the ignition is on. I cannot get the blip to work so only have the key to use. How can I reset the alarm or disable it?

There's two ways that work!

Either leave the ignition on BEFORE you connect the positive of the battery
- you've proved to the alarm you must have a right to use the car as you've
beaten it to the ignition switch!!

OR

find the button near the rear wiper switches etc which shows a few bands
like a wi-fi symbol with a cross over them which is the alarm off. You need
to depress this within 5 seconds of switching the ignition on!!

The first method is easier!!

Taking fuse 17 (I think) out is even easier.

Never thought locating and removing any Xantia fuse was easy groveling
about in the driver's footwell!!

OK then, removing fuse 17 is more final

You want to try getting at the fuse box in a current shape Transit. It's accessed by tipping the glovebox contents onto the floor, then rolling in the deposited contents to see into the fusebox.

The easiest way to avoid this after refitting the battery is to remotely lock and then unlock doors.

Thanks everyone found button that looks like Wi Fi turned ignition on and pressed it and the alarm stopped.

IIRC there is a cover on the right hand side below the windscreen, looks like a brake fluid filler cap.

It is actually a switch operated by the ignition key that turns off the alarm while the battery is being disconnected/reconnected.

You're correct Steve, but this simply stops the Klaxon alarm but has no
effect on the flashy lights bit of teh alarm. That'll be why you see some folk
in Xantiae on ebay worrying about the lights doing their own thing after
fitting a new battery etc...
