Sounds like one of the number of various sensors the HDi engine uses has gone faulty... Im not an HDi driver although have driven one or two.. It could well be the EGR valve playing up.. bu thats a gues, someone else could well be along soon to explain other possible things..

Do the Hdi engines have sensors on the exhaust? Like MAP or Lamda?
If so, would they have been clogged up by the unburnt diesel when the turbo pipe was off?

Should do, or give the garage an idea of where to look anyway.

well this dont tell me much but it may mean something to somebody,
the errors are intake air temp sensor & brake switch/cruise control circuit.

Do you think theres no need to by a egr valve?

thanks for all your help everyone

in that case i would take any intake sensors out and give them a good blast of carb cleaner, it wouldnt hurt to do the same with the EGR valve, also you can just have the EGR valve removed and the openning blancked off, this will not affect the emmisions

You really can't poke and hope with these engines - they are far too complex. What was used to scan the codes - I'm not at all convinced by those? What car we talking here? Xsara Picassos are known for getting corrosion on the ECU connector that can flag all sorts of odd codes / problems. It might be worth posting over at honestjohn.co.uk - Screwloose who posts there is extremely knowledgeable about the vagaries of HDi fault codes.

Hi,

It was not a dealership that i went to it was a local garage where a friend works, he asked them to plug it in (dont know what sort of machine)! and they were the error codes that came up..
Im hoping its not going to be an expensive job, the car is a 2001 xsara hatchback.

Are the brake lights sticking on or are the working at all, sometimes the brake light switch can come out of its holder so thinks the brakes are being pressed, if the ECU sees the brakes & accelerator being pressed at the same time it can bring the light on & cause it to lack power.
The air intake sensor is part of the airflow meter. I personally would be looking at the other faul first. Have the fault been cleared to see if they re occur ?

My brakes are perfect and theres no light on for them so i dont understand why that error has come up,

It was only the engine mangement but now the air bag light has lit too!!
not havin much luck.. :(

The car will still only travel a few miles then it conks out and re starts after a minute.
