Fuel Sender Unit Removal, Any Tips?

Post by evilally »

I'm trying to remove the fuel sender unit from my 405 1.9TD without success. The locking ring just won't move at all, I'm tapping it with a screw driver and hammer like Haynes says. All I've managed to do is break a number of the lugs :( I even tried heating it slightly to see if would maybe expand and loosen a little. Before I run out of lugs I'd thought I'd check if anyone had figured out a better way of getting the locking ring off?

Steady pressure might be better than tapping when there's rubber involved. If there are two opposite lugs left get a screwdriver on each and apply as much pressure as you can without slipping.

Some lubrication might help too.

Thanks, I did try some plusgas, but it didn't help. The way it's situated, it's tricky to get the real leverage on it. Is there an official tool for removing them? I was also considering cutting it away, and then replacing it with a new one.
