OBD 2 SCANNER

Post by meexi »

Just thought i would let you know that i bought this item http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=020 from e-bay because i had an engine management light come on my picasso. This was brilliant it picked the code and enabled me to erase it and i also found a code on my c3 aswell. best £21.99 i have spent for ages.

If it works, its worth the money! Looks simple enough, a handheld scanner that connects to your OBD port.

No doubt the ebay item linked to will disappear at some point so, a little detail on this thread will help me (or somebody else) work out what you're talking to in the future!

"OBD2 KKL OBD 2 diagnostic code Reader Scanner U380"

My understanding is that you can read all sorts of data out with OBD, e.g. MAP pressure, fuel pressure etc... does this scanner let you read live data out or does it just do fault codes?

These code readers are incredibly useful but be aware that they only work on cars that conform to the EOBD (Euro On Board Diagnostic) protocol.

Generally, petrol vehicles produced after 2001 and diesel vehicles produced after 2004 do as it is the law but those made before these dates may not. Until then, manufacturers could use their own protocols.

Unfortunately, Peugeot and Citroen used their very own, unique protocol right up until the law said they had to be EOBD compliant, so an EOBD Code Reader will not work :(

The only readers that will work on the older vehicles (e.g. all Xantias) are Citroen's own (ELIT, Lexia etc.) or hugey expensive third-party ones intended for professional use.

i was sceptical that it would work but thought for £22.00 it was worth the risk as i said it works on my 2001 hdi picasso and my 2004 hdi c3 reads the codes and then you get a book to work out the faults i am going to try it on my dads two xm`s one is a 2.0i turbo and the other a 2.5 td
