xantia gearbox oil

Hi I read a posting about how critical the grade of oil in the gearbox is in relation to ease of change but I cant find it now . can anyone help 1.9 td . regards john.

I think you want 75/80 grade

see my blog, about 7/8ths down , there is a shot of a group of items i got from factors, correct oil is in the photo.

Are we talking about a manual, or an automatic gearbox here ? If manual it is 75/80. If it is an automatic use only that which is specified in your user manual. I have not got it to hand, but can advise you later if required.

Hi my local factor thinks it should be 75-90 what difference does the 90 make over the 80 ?? john

A stiff gearchange in the summer and an impossible one in winter with the risk of possible synchro/selector damage.

These 'boxes are very fussy over oil and only 75W/80 will do. Comma do a good one.

Does this apply equally to 306s? My son's gearbox is getting increasingly stiff. Perhaps it was topped up with a different grade when last serviced.

Although clutch could be a suspect?

may be worth greasing the 3 linkage rods too..

As far as I know, all PSA manual 'boxes use 75W/80. A 306 certainly will.

It's not at all uncommon for something else to be used when changing/topping up in the trade as 75W/80 is not a popular grade at all and a lot of people just don't realise the criticality of using the right stuff.
