106 fuel gauge - or lack thereof .........

Post by marlin.45 »

We have a '97 106 diesel and the fuel gauge has never been the best. It never indicates above 3/4 full and it is even more of a guess how much fuel is in there - if you make a habit of going around corners or up/down hills

Anyway I thought I would do a few checks last weekend so I removed the sender and proved it was working OK. Linked the sender out and the fuel gauge goes to 3/4 (so that's a gauge or wiring fault so we'll leave that). Float is all good and raising and lowering results in the full gauge moving from empty to 3/4. So that works.

Stuck the sender back in the hole and it worked for 10 mins and then indicated the tank was empty. So pulled it out again checked it outside the tank and it works fine, put it back in the tank and it says empty? :x

Tried it once more and still it doesn't work so now we are using the trip counter. Anyone have any suggestions before I completely ignore the gauge?

Cheers,
Paul
