Xantia Rear Subframe - failed mounting bushes!!

Post by andmcit »

A pal of mine has had his wife's VSX Xantia fail on some of it's rear
subframe mountings. I've seen some of these starting to look a bit
naff on a few Xm's and Xantiae but this is the first time that I've seen
a MOT failure and just wondered if there was a supplier for these or
is it a 'direct from the manufacturer' part.

The job looks straightforward enough as I've dropped several Xantia
and GSA subframes in the past but am not totally certain of the LHM
pipes and fuel tank on the Xantia; is there enough slack to allow the
subframe to be lowered enough to remove the mountings? Am I right
to recall the tank needs removal first and that means removal of the
rear height corrector rod?

Is it defo the mounting bushes and not the axle bearings?

If its the bushes id be surprised if GSF dont do them....i used to work there and pretty sure they did do them...

How big a job it is i dont know.... :?

Hi Vince.

It's definitely the subframe bushes; when any torque is transmitted
through the wheels under braking the front edge of the rear subframe
dips downwards away from the boot floor...

seen it before on a GSA - the rubber totally peels away from the metal
mounting bracket and you don't see it when the car is static but hear it
clunk under acceleration/deceleration!

I'm betting on the mountings being a main dealer part or more likely a
second hand item.

Not sure then Andy,

I know i have had them go on a Xantia i had a few years ago..dont know where the garage got them from though?

Call Brian at GSF on 0161 876 0466 if they dont stock them then they have a back up stockist that hold a massive range of stuff

Tell him i asked you to call him and he will look after you  I used to be his boss :P
