Hi, I've got a '00 Xantia 2.0hdi and it's exhaust pipe has rusted through before it meets the cat (in fact, right on the bottom bend after it comes down from the manifold and then goes straight).
I'd like to avoid replacing the cat, but can't use another piece of pipe because it's on the bend.
I know that for the 1.9td the cat can be replaced with a straight through section, but is there one for the hdi? Does anyone know of one so that I can avoid paying £95 + vat for a new cat?
Thanks for your help - great forum.

Hi daver74,
I am afraid, there is no replacement pipe from the manifold to the cat for that engine. Guys here in Germany buy a piece of bent pipe in a plumber store (sorry for my english) and weld it in place. It is also good to repair the connection to the pipe at the other end of the cat. Some of them open the cat, take out all what is inside, replace it with a piece of a straight pipe and close the cat again. Do not know, if the missing/lower pressure resistance behind the turbocharger does not damage the turbocharger.

i dont know if the lower presure can damage the TURBO , but removing the cat sure dose make emmmm goooooo better, even a brand new diesel engine chucks out particals, cats arnt designed to let these sort of particals through, so it clogs them up inturn resticting the exhaust gasses from escaping
