Replacement Silencers

Post by howzat »

My 1.8 Xantia 16v developed a leak in the silencer (it only has one unlike many other Citroens). I purchased a replacement from GSF but found that it emitted an unpleasant booming note which was noisier than the original citroen manufactured silencer, even with its leaks. Can anyone recommend a source of effective silencers for this model?

Try googling Bosal, you should come up with a number of their UK distributors. They all offer a fairly fast service.

I have been using their products for years and they seem to be as good as OE but considerably cheaper. They could even supply a part next day for one of my Activas, whereas Citroen quoted six weeks.

I had a similar problem with a GSF silencer on a 2L Xantia. I suspect that they supply diesel silencers for petrol applications.

I recently got a replacement system for my V6 from
http://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk I cannot fault the product or service.

Thanks for all that useful info. Bosal silencers seem to have a good spec and are cheaper than GSF. the only pt. no. I could find was 9616.4371 which Bosal listed as the O.E. number.

useing that O/E No. BOSALs site came up with this page

http://tinyurl.com/5rehpe

then the O/E No. comes out as 1726.H4,

the O/E No. is in small print above the larger bold PRINT which is BOSALs part No.
