Headlights come on after ignition is turned off.

Unread post by Spud »

As the title says, the headlights on my Xantia 2.0i CT VSX Estate come on after ignition is turned off. Is related to an alarm problem. I posted on here with alarm problems before but this wasn't the problem then. Also the alarm doesn't make any sound as before.
I do not have a handbook to check up on this either...

Also the LED next to the clock flashes continuously too...

Any ideas?

Hi Spud, you have activated the alarm system. If your car is a MK1, with the key pad, the following should resolve it.

To re-arm, insert the ignition key, but do not turn on. Depress the alarm reset button on the right of the steering column, turn on ignition but do not start car, enter keypad code as normal, the hazard lights should flash a few times and the little LED on the left of the clock should extinguish. Car should now start on the key.

This assumes that all the sensors are in good working order and the system has not been messed with.

This technique was shown to me by Citroen, so it should work.

Well, I just tried it and it didn't work :(

But, depressing the alarm reset button with the ignition on did sort it out :D So we are on the right track here, I think :?

sat in the car with the ignition I pressed the button for several seconds, the headlights came on, then went off and then the indicators flashed quickly several times. That was it! I could get out of the car and the headlights didn't come on when I locked up.
Now lets see what happens tomorrow when I unlock it and start the car.

Thanks for your help!!

All is well with the alarm, and the Xantia passed the MOT test today :!:

Now to wait for the insurance certificate to arrive.....

I'd probably be having a look for water in the alarm ECU under the passengers seat.
