HELP WITH HOPPING, synergie 1999 1.9td xud, 85k miles,

skipping rope comes to your mind doesnt it?

well after several weeks here is the progress so far,

1, timing belt and tensioners (garage job)
2, eventually got all the electric windows working ,
3, replaced sliding door handles and they all work
4, replaced wrongly fitted top engine mount (garage job)
5, new cd player fitted,
6, valeted all seats and carpets ( previous owners had dogs)
7, replaced bushes on arm? (front) (garage job)

now the only problem i cant pin point is:

your driving down the road at a steady 40 ish, and for example the road bears left , on returing the wheel to straight, you can feel the wheel/s like hop or snatch, but not to the extent where it is dangerous, but the mechanic stated there is no play at all in the steering and suspension,

could you help?

Tracking? Tyre pressures?

would tracking cause a feel of hopping, but saying that the steering is out of alignment, so first job tomorrow is the tracking, see if that cures the problem,

If its far out it would, it will also severly wear the front tyres. Certainly worth checking.

peter if i line the steering wheel straight , it would go round a corner (not tight corner) on its own, thats how much its out.

If its just the tracking thats out it might pull in either direction but not just one. If its pulling to one side only, could be the camber or castor angle that's out, but that would only normally happen if there had been some damage to the suspension. Check the tracking first.

well having the tracking done today seems to have solved the problem, and for a change the garage asked me to go back next week for a free tracking check up,

well it drove a lot better , just need to give it a good run down the motorway , change lanes a few times, as this morning before i went i did a 1 mile junction stretch and as i changed lane it did snatch to the right really bad that i had to brake slightly , so i will test tomorrow, so far so good,

now i am starting to enjoy my citroen at last, as its been a nightmare since purchase,

Well, it may be you still have a problem or it could be that you have become sensitised to it and are being over critical - time will tell
