Austrian biodiesel and Xantia
Hi all,
A few days ago I was in asutria and they have for sale there biodiesel at some 1.2Euros which is about 20 cents cheaper than diesel, so I asked at the pump if i can put it in my 1.9 TD 1996 xantia, bosch pump and they told me citroens and biodiesel dont mix. Anyway I am assuming that citroen declared they wont honour warranty or something like that if biodiesel is used.
since i used 50/50 svo/diesel in the uk at some stage and it was ok i assume the biodiesel in austrai cant be much worse for car,
does anyone know anything more on this ?
bye

You are asking too much - on the tank service man 8)
Xantia TD with Bosch pump will eat almost anything - defo any kind of veg, bio or derv, as long as it is not too cold.
If you fear lowish temps, then make your own fuel preheater - or find one ready made.
They are laughing simple to DIY and fit in the fuel lines just prior to the diesel pump - even with a "complex thermoswitch operated power relay" circuit 8)

It's also hydroscopic so don't leave it in the tank for long.
Actually, as veg users abroad, it'd be worth looking into the local regulations/legality of using SVO in other counties.
I believe it's unrestricted in Germany, but a no-no in some other countries.

You cant mix svo/wvo with bio as it can gel together and make a right mess as i found out.

That`s true. Also remember you don`t generally buy Biodiesel at the pump but a mix of 5% Bio and 95% petro/diesel.

Not much chance of it staying in my tank for very longXac wrote:It's also hydroscopic so don't leave it in the tank for long.

The stuff I buy is 100% Bio, made from virgin rapeseed oil.

Been using it on and off for over a year with no noticable side effects.
It isn't always available so I do fill up with dino inbetweentimes.
It used to be a blend, depending on how much WVO they had available at the time but now WVO has become uneconomical to process and they just convert virgin rapeseed oil and claim a better end result. 100% bio. I can detect no difference, runs just the same on anything I stick in the tank. It is due a service in August so I'll ask the mechanic to have a root around, see if he can see anything untoward.
I'm having a new timing belt/tensioner/waterpump and ancilliary belts fitted, plus a new injector, so he'll have a good chance to poke around.

biodiesel is not the problem, its straight veg oil or waste oil.den169 wrote:myglaren how long have you been running your hdi c5 on bio diesel iv'e seen many posts saying it will ruin an hdi engine and cost a lot of money to repair,And is it 100% on bio or are you mixing it.

I`m also reliably informed that 2.1td with Lucas Epic pump will run on well made B100. Guy on another forum did 35k no problems.

Ross. If you mean 100% rapeseed oil.....then no. When I speak of B100 I mean REAL Biodiesel ie. 100% Methyl Ester Fuel made from waste veg oil or new oil with no methanol or water or soaps in it.........lovely stuff

You have to be carefull these days.
My dads just cleared a load of what appears to be soaps out of his fuel lines in his old 2.1td and put Dino in it and its back to running fine.
I think due to demand far outstripping supply lately due to such large price differences that biodiesel producers are cutting the proper production timescales...
