Hello all, I've got a quick question I hope someone can help me with.
I have an R reg Xantia 2.1 TD and one of the rad fans has started to wobble like mad so I'd like to replace it.
My question is; are all the fan motors the same? Do some xantias come with a single fan and the aircon models come with twin fans? Basically I'm going to go to the scrappy and have a look for another fan but I want to know what will fit.
Thanks
Tom
Xantia rad fan motors...all the same?

There are about 4 different rated fan motors from 120W to 310W fitted to Xantias, depending on engine, A/C, RP number and climate rating. The Citroen spares site has the details.
You car probably has 200W or 250W fans.`
You can probably fit a matched pair from any other Xantia, and have it work, as the fans don't work that hard in the UK (but a matched pair, as they are connected in series for low speed operation).
The 1.8i petrol (A/C) is a good scrapyard source for 250W fans.

Yes, unfortunately, there will be problems if you use two different fans.
At the low speed, the fans are wired in series, and have to be identical, otherwise one may spin fast, while the other one does nothing.

Late reply again guys lol
I've just joined up to that site, waiting for the confirmation e-mail as I type, so I'll hopefully soon know what spec my fans are....I do have a question though (I know nothing about electronics)
If I fit a matched pair from a different model that have a different watt rating, will this affect anything else? fuses? wires melting etc?
Again, thanks for all the help

Ph 2 1.8 uses a 200W fan, Ph 1 (and 2) 2.1 TD uses a 310W fan (A/C) 250W fan (no A/C). The fan part nos are the same on all variants, the motors are different. Soooo if you've not got A/C it might be OK, with A/C it probably won't.
310W fans fitted to:
PH 1: 1.8 Auto A/C; 2.0 Auto A/C; 1.9TD A/C untill rp 6944 (some)
PH 2: 1.9 TD A/C Auto (some); 2.0T (some); 2.0 Auto A/C
I guess a pair of 250W fans would probably be OK in the UK.

I had been rather puzzled by why the V6 did not need the 310W fans (and I think the UKmodel makes do with 200W). The 3 litre petrol engine must generate much more heat than a 2.1 litre diesel.
It just occurred to me that the difference is probably the intercooler, which needs a higher airflow than the A/C condensor or the radiator to work efficiently.

I don't see that the motors have to be matched. There are 2 circuits used:
Slow speed - 2 motors in series - current will pass through both. Determined by Ohms law - add the 2 resistances together - and that will determine the current in the circuit. Obviously if 1 motor passes 12 amps (1 ohm) and 1 passes 2 amps (6 ohms) - a total resistance of 7 ohms will limit the output - which of course is dependent on the current passing through the circuit and better matched motors of low resistance will work better.
Fast speed - 2 motors in parallel - free for all if the supply is adequate - ie both will do their own thing.
