xantia 19td 1999 suspension creaks/drops on start up

Post by xantia 1.9td 1999 »

Hi

On starting my car the front just drops and makes a creaking noise, is this normal?, has anyone experienced this problem?

I have tried raising the suspension and lowering it to get trapped air out, i think this is the right method!!!

Also can someone tell me what suspension components require regular greasing/lubrication. Can someone email me pics, i am a dummy when it comes to car part terminalogy.

Much appreciated

Hi, this is often caused by a bust accumulator sphere. It causes the anti sink valves to close as soon as the car is turned off (this should usually take longer) and the car doesn't get a chance for the suspension to lower down after you step out (when you get out the suspension goes a little higher and should automatically lower to readjust) it doesn't do it if the anti sink closes. It stays too high over night and next day start up, the pressure opens the anti sink valves and suddenly it lowers.

Anyway, if it's the accumulator then it is a green coloured sphere fitted to a valve block down low at the front behind the radiator - you'll see it from the top easy enough but it's reached from below, it has to have the 12mm bolt at the valve block loosened by 1/4 turn. The sphere is unscrewed after this - might well be tight and you'll need a chain wrench to remove it (or one of those special 'sphere tools' .

Lastly, it's a case of swapping the the O ring seal and screwing the new sphere from e.g. GSF in to hand tightness. Start up, tighten the 12mm bolt and job's done.

Not sure about the greasing - maybe the front struts and spray some grease on the height corrector mechanisms to stop 'em jamming.
