Xantia brakes

Unread post by handyman »

I have just swapped over the discs and calipers, etc from my old redundant 2.0 16V estate onto my wife's 2001 Xantia Forte estate and noticed that the Forte does not have a system for indicating pad wear.

Is this normal on later Xantias, as Citroen try to ring the last few sous from the production models prior to the launch of the C5? Was it just cheap corner cutting? Does anybody know if the later cars still carry the wiring harness for the PWI, as all the bracketry was still fitted? Have yet to track down a wiring diagram for the last estates made.

I am also looking for a set of the Bosch calipers and carriers as fitted to the Activa and HDi. Anybody got any or know of a MK2 being scrapped or broken in the South East?

I noticed this a few years back, Citroen must have decided that they no longer needed to fit the warning wires to the front pads.
The first one was on my own 1999 Xantia, but lets face it, most of the warning wires were connected at the pad end and broken just beyond, so I guess, whats the point of them? lets face it, even when we know that they work, we still check the pads by removing the wheels and having a look.

Hi Martin, you and I may take off the wheels regularly or listen for the sound of worn pad scrapping on metal, along with the smell of burning friction material, but SWMBO and others drive my cars and are not so diligent in spotting faults or reporting them to the grease monkey, me! unless they have a little light flashing at them, even then it may be sometime before anything is said.

As I service all my own cars, flashing lights, warning bells and whistles give me a fighting chance of staying on top of it all. :?

Interesting information about spheres in my call to you yesterday.

I only had my Accord two years before it was written off but although mine had the electrical warning, I read the some have an audible warning - when the pads are due for replacement they scream when used.

Aha, the way you get round that is the simple solution to any unusual noise emitted by the car, turn the volume up on the radio/CD player, etc.

Interesting observation.. My wife has just informed me (Sat morning) that the 'red stop light kept coming on at the start of the week and now is on all the time' and 'could I have a quick look sometime' Brilliant!!!!!!

Today I was talking to a lady Xantia owner who was telling me that her kids used to play a game of "guess when the STOP light will come on" to keep them amused on long journeys

Their guessing game stopped when the LHM reservoir was topped up
