Hi John,
The Low Pressure TD engine was fitted, for a short time to some Xantias and was known , if memory serves me as the SD. It's a turbo but has very low boost and was seen as a stepping-stone between the NA engine and a fully turboed one. Advantages of both and all that... It was not about for long.
As regards the clutch for these, I'm afraid it's a conventional "push" clutch as fitted to the NA diesel engines and not the "pull" type as seen in the proper TD
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

I kind of agree chaps
this will be my Xantia fourth gearbox out.. :O
The best I managed was 3 hours (start to finish- gearbox holed by a pinoin breaking up!)
.... this time though I am taking lump out, as there are a few other jobs to do (HG, cambelt, engine bay clean and steering rack leak)
anyway... its a tough line... I know some people would only ever put Stealer parts in (see another post about friends clio and an £800 service) but also, I have generally used non-OE parts in , including a clutch kit from somewhere I can't remeber (£50 - 1.8Xant) and have always been fine...
I think it is probably in my nature to take a risk and hopefully cope with the consequences

When we did Xac's clutch we fitted a £50 Transmech kit. It looked OK although Xac was still complaining it was too light last week One thing Xac and I noticed was how easy it was to refit the gearbox with this particular clutch compared to the right old faff I had when I fitted a Valeo to my old 1.9TD and the same when I fitted a Valeo to a Saxo concurrent to fitting Xac's.
So, one is tempted to ask if the Transmech driven plate is a sloppy fit on the gearbox input shaft splines whereas a Valeo is more accurately machined and thus fits more tightly perhaps

some one once asked me to fit a clutch to his BX (TAXI DRIVER SAY NO MORE ), he also talked me into him supplying the parts, he bought a NATIONAL clutch kit from a cut price motor factors whos name i wont mention, and neadless to say i have never used on principle,
once i had fitted it i had to wind the adjuster right to the end of its adjustmet before it would disengage when pressing the pedle,
also i belive they are remanufatured clutches,
as others have said its a lot of work to be doing it twice,
regards malcolm

'tis ok, have found a 'pull' for about £50... cant seem to find much cheaper...
how much was your Valeo, out of interest?
HI
I definately agree with all the other chaps about the quality of the clutch, however, if your not in too much of a ruch try ebay. i recently found a valeo clutch brand new for 50. Bargain.

I'm actually loving the transmech one now Jim, it's not quite as light as your TD's which is perfect for me
