Xsara (Strange Noise ?)

Post by killie77 »

Hi
I've been getting a Noise from the front end when I drive off after the Car's been sitting for a while.
It appears to come from the Steering Rack/Front Suspension area.
sounds like something lifting and then settling back down . That's about the best description I can think of
Any ideas ?
Regards

Has your Xsara got the standard hydraulic assisted steering with a pump ?
Then its possible that you have got a dry servo ram cylinder piston surface.
Very easy to spot from underneath the car.

Otherwise you must inspect the front suspension for any defects. Like a dry droplink bushing etc.

Hi Anders
Thanks for the Info
Not sure what kind of system it has ?
Checked the Power Steering reservoir seems to be topped up.
If I look from beneath what is it I'm looking at and how would I spot if it was a Dry Piston ?
Thanks

A horizontal "shiny steel rod" pretty much covers what to look for

This would be the steering ram cylinder piston.
