indicator stalk replacement

Post by 3ps »

Hi,

I am have the usual tick indicator relay problem.

I can see the relay and will replace.

But I believe from other postings that the indicator stalk could be the problem. I took off the bottom steering column cowl, and loosen the top bit but the indicator stalk seemed to be a closed unit.

Any tips on how to get it out and clean it???

hi 3ps

I did one a few years ago.. you have the clicking like mad relay I presume?

Getting the stalk out is easy, cowl top and bottem off (3 or 4 deep seated torx screws I think) although you've done this already..

the stalk is just screwed in as a 'block', unscrew and remove as a unit..

this can then be carefully dismantled by pushing in the plastic retainers all round the block..

access the contacts, clean, light oil or lube maybe, sorted ;)

Switching the hazard flasher switch on and off a few times may fix the relay ticking.
The indicator current passes through the hazard switch contacts, and lack of use causes intermittencies.
That’s assuming that the stalk switch isn’t carbonised.

I tried switching the hazard flasher a few times but it has not worked.

yes the relay is clicking like mad but I can make it click by fiddling with the stalk so I assume its the contact/dirt in the stalk.

I'll give it another go so!

Thanks.
