That's what we're going to look at next Simon. Praying it is that...

If it's the HG then the job is going to be big as we'll also overhaul its 4HP20 at the same time...

If you need a late model (small diameter) ES9 water pump, I have one here that I bought in error.

This particular 407 is a 2.0 16V Hdi diesel Mike but thanks for the offer :)

I doubt the water pumps are the same :(

Funnily enough it's not the same, Jim.... :)

I recalled something odd about the 2.0 16V Diesel cam belt - looked it up, and remembered what it is - there is no injection pump - it's driven off the other end of one of the cams. Looks like you need a tool to lock the crank shaft via the starter aperture / bottom of the flywheel to undo the crank pulley bolt....

Yes, winding it backwards even slightly will damage things.

Yes; therein lies the risk as the tensioner only works in normal direction of rotation.

Lighty had similar trouble with a 1.6 HDi 16V - he wound it back a bit to get the stretchy aux belt on, and unwound the cam chain in the process

The belt change is covered in the C5 BOL, Jim - shout if you want me to send you a scan of it. Belt run (just there and back) is more akin to a single cam petrol engine - it might even be possible without removing the engine mount!

If you could drop me a scan of the relevant pages I'd be eternally grateful, many thinks indeed Richard :-D

I've had a look and I reckon removing the engine mount will give a great deal more access and it's easy enough to do... Once the mount is out of the way and the aux. belt is off the cambelt looks very visible...

Looking forward to it, a new engine to get my teeth into...

Nothing special mentioned about the water pump - unbolt and remove
