Xantia suspension sound

When my Xantia goes over a big hump at speed, the front left strut seems to come down too fast and makes a big thump sound. I've already changed to a used strut but it still makes the noise. Should I get a new strut or is it something else making that noise?

I'd be more inclined to suspect the sphere on that side John. The sort of thing that is happening suggests it's nearly flat.
