Anybody care to tell me where I can find the thermostat in a 1995 1.09TD Xantia?
Is it in the big black plastic cylinder thing? or in the metal housing below that, mounted on it's side.
If the latter... will loads of coolant come out if I open it?
Thanks.

It's in the small plastic bellhousing at the end of the top hose where it joins the housing attached to the cylinder head . Three studs and off comes the cover to expose the thermostat.
The big black cylinder thing is the diesel fuel filter.. It sits on top of the thermostat housing in order to warm the diesel in cold weather.
You will need to lower the coolant level before going removing the thermostat cover. Pull the top hose from the rad end and angle it down slightly until no more water comes out. The levels is then low enough to swap thermostats.
