Xantia TD exhaust

Post by jgra1 »

hi all,

I have been wondering why my Turbo has been getting louder for a few days.. I put it down to having windows open with warmer weather and hearing it reflect from hedges etc

but tonight on way home i noticed my rear [only] silencer has snapped off ;) rest of pipe is resting on the Rear AR bar, just

Car actually feels more pokey.. and a quite pleasent sound too...

What are my options?

It seems there are no joins at all from downpipes to rear box, it may have 'gone' on the only join...
I dont really want a cat again, so do I need to buy a non-Cat TD exhaust complete>?

any thoughts as I am skint ;)

You can get away with a less efficient system wit a turbo, as it takes most of the energy out of the exhaust. Most diesel Xantias don't seem to have a cat, the same with XMs, so put the cheapest on. Have a look on ebay, there are some quite reasonably priced exhausts on there sometimes.

Thanks Peter...

hmm just looked at GSF.. presently I have a cat and the rear silencer..

seems a cat front system only for a TD is £109 ish..

N21506C CATALYTIC CONVERTER XANTIA 1.9TD 94>98 (PSA K £109.00

or ...

if no 'Cat' seems I have to have a front silencer instead.. (non TD)

SILENCER-FRONT XANTIA 1.9D £32.50

cant see too much on ebay at moment searching on xantia exhaust

feel like chopping the cat out and welding the whole thing back together !

Oddly enough I was just discussing this with a 'garage bloke' yesterday.
We bought a 306 from him last week and the back box fell off on the way to Carlisle. It made no difference to the car and no increase in sound and if it weren't for exhaust fumes being sucked into the car we would probably have left it like that.

He fitted a new one anyway and when I picked it up we got to discussing exhausts and he said that there was a full system available quite cheaply for Xantias that eliminated the cat.
All in one piece.

I'd say this combo would do the job. It only says it does to 1997 so it would be an idea to check if the manifold changed after that.

i purchased the straight through pipe from GSF and fitted it to my R reg 1.9 TD estate, make it go far better without the cat, cost around £36 squide (no centre box)

If you can hear the turbo (they should be silent) you might need a new engine side gasket as well. If you do need a new one, it's worth buying a Citroen fitting kit, cost me about £15 but you get the OEM gasket and new bolts, springs, cups, washers & nuts.

thanks Mike

the turbo noise has literally come on in the last few days, also , i left the rear passenger window open a bit last week and could hear the rush of air from exhaust when turbo comes on, so I think the increased noises are just that part of rear exhaust breaking up ...

May get the kit anyway.. :)
