ZX 1.4I offside driveshaft gaiter replacement

Hi All,

Looking round the car prior to the MOT, I have found that the offside CV joint gaiter (long shaft) has perished round the ligarex clip on the shaft.
Obviously grease is leaking so it will have to be replaced.
On this particular shaft, it has still got the heavy cast metal tri ax can and not the later pressed tin one.
With this type of earlier shaft, can you remove the CV joint by tapping it of the shaft against a circlip or does everything have to come off the tri ax end ?

you can just knock off the CV joint with this type, but mind not to hit the cage which retains the ball bearings,

i allways tillt the joint over as fare as it will go then give one of the crown peaks a swift blow whilst hollding the shaft back with your third hand, it is also best to use a copper or hide mallat

I allways use a slide hammer to remove CV joints.

All you need is.

1 x cheap slide hammer.
1 x old hub nut.

Simpply weld the old hub nut to one of the dent pulling attachments that you wont be using, then you can screw the assembly onto the end of the CV joint, whack the slide hammer back with a short sharp action and bingo! the joint is off.

Works every time and without the danger if hitting the cage.
