Xantia 1.9TD N Reg Rough Starting Problems

Unread post by rlatarche »

Hi all,

Looking for some help with a small problem when starting up in the mornings, its rather choppy and rough for about a minute maybe less.
The engine cranks over fine and fires after a couple of seconds but there is a large amount of smoke after the engine has fired.
The smoke dies down after 20 seconds or so but what can be causing the rough smokey starts.

I've had the glow plugs changed about 2000 miles ago with oem parts so they should all be good.
The car has a bosch fuel pump, however i do know that the throttle position sensor has had the rocker arm broken off so in theory the car doesnt know where the throttle is.

I've tried starting the engine with and without the sensor connected with no noticable difference.

I've also tried sourcing the throttle sensor but with no luck, anybody know costs or sources for the sensor?

Thanks

Don't assume the glow plugs are ok just because they are only a few thousand miles old....never overlook the obvious with problems like this...Check the plugs then when you have eliminated them take it from there.
