Xantia high idle since glowplug rad change

Unread post by RugbyPete »

I replaced the radiator the other day, the idle is now at 1500rpm opposed to about 800 i twas before

Only difference was a new radiator, and the intercooler pipes removed. I believe they have been tightened up a bit better this time - could the increase in pressure be putting the idle out?

where's it adjusted?

I also had the glowplugs down the weekend prior.

What car, Pete? And what age?

It may be as simple as you have hooked up the thottle cable on something, or misplaced the fast start cable (if fitted - depending on the age).

Depends on the year, does it have a throttle cable attached to the pump? if so, the adjustment is on the lever that the cable is connected to. But I would think it highly unlikely that anything in the pump has changed, its more likely that the cable has been disturbed and is not allowing the the lever to return fully.

As above, I've done it several times now, moved the throttle cable to do other work and forgot to put it back. Result? Higher idle :? Easily sorted.

My Xantia 1.9TD decided to go high idle on me today, in the middle of a journey. It turned out the lock-nut on the throttle-stop had worked loose, and the throttle stop had screwed itself in. Thought it was quite bizzarre, but at least it was an easy fix.
