how do I know if my 1996 1.9td has a bosch pump (for biodiesel/veggie purposes)

Bosch Turbo pumps are easily recognised by the large flying saucer on top, which is connected to the air inlet pipework.

The easy rule of thumb if trying to identify between a Lucas/CAV/rotodiesel and a Bosch VE is look at the rotor head. That's the cast iron bit where the injection pipes attach. It's a square casting on the Bosch and a round casting on the Lucas.
Please note that just having a bosch pump does not mean your car will run as well on oil as diesel, however it's a good starting point. Also other cars (not XUD engines) can have unsuitable bosch pumps, such as the VP30 and VP44. The EPVE/VP37's are the suitable ones.
