How to modify flow distributor to power steering on a BX

Unread post by FrankBo »

Hi, i have a BX 1600 and my garage is going to replace flow distributor.
I'd modify power steering more hardly, can i reduce LHM flow from
distributor to power steering to obtain steering hard? I don't like steering
too soft except in parking ....

How can i reduce LHM flow to power steering?

Thanks in advance

Hi Frank,

Have a look at this post. It tells you how to rebuild the FDV very easily.

You'll see it also hints at the adjustment for steering pressure.

The adjuster on the BX FDV controls the ultimate system pressure - which means that if you get the pressure too low there will not be enough pressure for the regulator to function properly. I think this will show up as a failure of the regulator to cycle properly and/or even the warning light to fail to go out.

I had a problem with this valve on my BX - it had been assembled incorrectly with the plunger the wrong side of the ball bearing - and the car wouldn't rise properly and the warning light would come on while the car was being driven. The steering worked perfectly once I'd fitted a new pump.
