Hi all
i have been looking into purchasing yet another xantia but have been a little mistyfied over the large price differences for what seem like similar cars particularly on fleabay.
so has anybody else noticed this or is it just me being a little tight fisted
i currently have the following xantia (not for sale-admin ) and was wondering what value people would put on it just as an experiment
Xantia 1.9d lx P 1996 metalic grey
mileage 190000
A/C HRW working Fan working Manual Mirrors
12 Months MOT 3 Months tax
Bosch fuel pump reconditioned by bosch (£400) 153000miles
Recon gearbox new clutch 142000miles
All 6 spheres changed in last month along with Hydraflush(4 corner + acc+anti sink)
Cambelt-tensioners-water pump 189000 miles
Front discs + pads 189500 miles
Handbrake cables 187000miles
Oil fuel air filter changed 190000miles
Wheels 15" tyres min 6" tread
Interior clean and tidy no rips/tears etc
Exterior no dents bumpers not colour coded
I am keeping this one and looking to sell my hurried purchase of an E£$&^T (it was cheap and i needed a car in a hurry ) which i intend to replace with a Xantia TURBO(honest Jim i need one ) and hope i can gauge what sort of quality car i can get based on what you lot think my own xantia is probably worth
i know its all subjective so hopefully i will get a nice spread of prices
Thanks in advance
Colin

Not much, frankly, unless on inspection the car really was immaculate inside, outside, upside and everywhere. It sounds like you've spent many times the cost of the car in work done...
It's still 12 years old, an older non-turbo diesel, and nearly getting on for inter-stellar miles regardless of what bits-and-bobs have been replaced, there's a whole world of expensive stuff that might go wrong tomorrow. Rear arm bearings, subframe mounts, rotten strut tops, worn cam followers or camshaft, nasty patch of rot hidden somewhere, seized calipers, leaking struts, rupturing hydraulic safety valve, LHM pump, weakened door hinges, split coolant pipes, head gasket, breaking crankshaft pulley, or it just might go the way my relatively young 1.9TD went - sudden random big end failure!
These will all be familiar heard-about if not first-hand experienced issues for any half-way knowledgeable Xantia owner. Joe Bloggs on the other hand might be more ignorant - but then would he be looking at a 12 year old "fancy french car"?
That all said, I'm intending to put a 1.9TD into the for sale section. I've spent a fortune on it myself but will probably get a tenner now

In the current market, anything reasonably tidy with long tax and test, and diesel, seems to fetch £5-600. High scrap values help too. A car advertised well will always sell for more than its really worth on Ebay.

hi
I was listening to virgin radio the other day, there was an advert for a company called "we buy any car" there website is http://www.webuyanycar.com/
you can enter your cars details (only takes 2 mins) and they send you an instant email with a price that they will buy it for.
now i appreciate that they are not going to offer you best price but is might give you an idea, my r reg xantia 1.9TD estate with 125k was valued at £500.
Have a go
Cheers
Tim
