My 306 has the auto tensioner on the alternator drive belt (also drives power steering and aircon). I've made up a 9mm square drive to fit into the tensioner arm but the damn thing doesn't want to budge. Am I not putting enough force on it ? or am I missing something ?
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers,
Chris

The tensioner has quite a solid spring in it, so you will need a bit of leverage. I usually use a 450mm long 3/8" power bar. The 3/8 square drive should fit in the hole in the tensioner. As you move the tensioner back towards the cambelt cover, a small hole in the tensioner arm should line up with a hole in the tensioner bracket. Put something in this (I usually use a 3 or 4 mm hex key) to lock the tensioner away from the belt. As the belt runs underneath the bottom "leg" of the tensioner bracket you will have to remove this to replace/remove the serpentine belt.
P.S. Take a note of the belt routing before you take it off.
