Whilst replacing the front pads the phone rang and I went to answer it. On returning to the car I could see that the brake piston had moved out so far that I could not reseat the caliper as the gap was now thinner than the brake disc. There are also a few drops of LHM on the ground which have dripped from the boot. I am unabl either to retract the piston or to rotate it. I have made a later attempt to retract the piston but to no avail.
The car is now conveniently placed diagonally across a double garage as I am unable to replace the wheel.
Does any one have any suggestions before I flail the car with a small sapling?

It must be possible to move the piston somehow. The problem probably is that it has not gone back in square. If you can remove the rubber boot, look at the sides of the piston, you will probably find that it is tilted slightly, find the high spot and tap it with a soft hammer and it should go back in, then you will be able to turn it.
I have now managed to rotate the piston but it does not wish to retract. How long is the piston? It appears to be only just in the barrel but will not remain true when I turn it.
