GSF Drop links
I need to replace the drop links on the old gal as the rattling is getting on my nerves. I note that GSF list two parts, N42265 and N42265A, the first being half the price of the other. Can anyone tell me if the dear ones are worth the extra? I'm happy to go with the dear ones if they are going to last longer as I've used cheapish ones from elsewhere before and they've been shot within 10k miles.
I know there have been a few threads on the subject, and the general consensus has been that original Citroen (£££) ones are best, but if anyone could shed some light on the difference between the two GSF parts I'd be grateful.

Yes, I think the V6 does use the 12mm thread, but there are also two other drop links listed N42264 & N42264A which I believe are the 10mm thread ones. The guy at GSF didn't seem to know what the difference between any of them is.elma wrote:I think you may find that they are different thread diameters.
10mm and 12mm.
I believe a V6 uses the 12mm.
Don't know which part number is which.

I think the best thing to be done noted in the past posts ive seen is to pull the rubbers back a little bit and fill them with grease until you cant get no more in there. this extends their life a lot more and then just do the same everytime you replace your brake pads or are in that region for any reason

The more expensive ones are Lemforder (the OE supplier). If you want them to last longer than 10k then fit the expensive ones. They used to list 2 different sizes, but since only very early cars used the smaller ones, they probably just list the one size now*. Don't bother trying to undo them, just cut the nuts off with an angle grinder - much much faster. And much more satisfying
Edit * D'oh just re-read your post, and they still do list the smaller ones!

I'm glad they do. I still run one of those early cars you speak of Richard. The track-rod ends are smaller too, as I found out the hard wayRichardW wrote:Edit * D'oh just re-read your post, and they still do list the smaller ones!

All Xantia's have a droplink with a 90 degree at one end - and two different sizes of bolt depending on year. (Before / after 1995) It's the XM that has straight balljoints at both ends...

OK Elma...
I have an XUD Xantia Estate MK1(?) and an HDi (MK2).
ONE has 90º on one end of the droplinks, and the other straight! I had it arse end around - sorry!
Local Halfrauds in France sold me the wrong ones for HDi, and I had to take them back - this I remember well.

Xantia MK2 uses droplinks with a 90º angle balljoint at one end. MK1s are straight.
I disagree, my mk 1 has 90deg at one end and straight at the other
