406 TD ok for veg oil?

My citroens running ok on oil.. father in law wants some now... he has a 406 TD

if it has a bosch pump is it ok to use on veg oil?

I run my 1996 405 TD on veggie now and again with a 50/50 mix, when colder 70/30, should I be OK to go 100% without heating etc?

Some have no problems, if you go over 75% you will start noticing it becoming a bit lumpy on cold mornings starts, a few glowplug cycles usually helps. However, i ran close to 100% and came into problems, lumpy idle when hot aswell, the thicker oil makes the pump work harder and can damage seals, when you hear one running on 100% on a sub zero morning you will soon understand why! Many have not had leaks occur from it, or noticed any side effects, but for me the possible expense of a damaged pump/seals needing a rebuild is too much to risk, so i am running 60/40 for now and enjoying perfecting starting with reduced cost, and also much better mpg with this mix than a higher % of SVO.

I'll go to 60/40, any suggestions for best deals, obviously the majors have increased in line with fuel!!! Been using Li*L at present .68 lit.

The Bosch pump is ok for it as it doesn't use the diesel for lubrication, the Lucas pump is unsuitable as it does, and you will end up with a sheared off rotary head as I did

If it's a 2.1TD 406 then don't let even one drop of veg anywhere near it!

These engines have the brilliant but very delicate Lucas/Delphi EPIC pump and it will die very quickly if it sees veg. It is deadly poisonous to it.

The same applies if it's an HDi.

Replacing a dead EPIC is a very expensive job.

I have, on the back burner, a project to develop a mechanical Bosch or mechanical Lucas conversion for the 2.1TD.

I need a donor with a dead EPIC to proceed.

Veg is only safe in Bosch equipped 1.9TD engines.
