Xantia damp carpet passenger footwell

Post by Burly Chassis »

The car is a 1999 Citroen Xantia Hdi sx estate.. have just noticed said carpet is a bit damp (car has needed demisting a bit more than usual recently). Here is a pic taken looking up into the right hand corner of the passenger footwell, there is a slow drip runnning down the plastic that I've arrowed. Tasted the drip... YUK! Heating seems fine, no smell that I've noticed.

So, I'm guessing that I might have a matrix problem, but I'm a complete novice, so if anyone else has any advice I'd be mighty appreciative.

Thanks in advance

Check if the scuttle panel is sealed against the windscreen properly & not cracked. water leaks past this & comes in through the heater intake.

If it's dripping out of there, then I think it's odds on it's new matrix time. Changing it is a git since the dash has to come out, but I have had good results with Forte Radiator sealer in the past.... not cheap, but easier than dash out!!

Thanks all for the replies. Took the car over to our local Citroen genius. Matrix the culprit alright, but he suggested trying K-Seal first. Anyone have any experience of this stuff (I think it's relatively new)? How does it compare to Forte Radiator sealer, Radweld or Barr's?

Thanks again!

Burly, if you do have to take the dash out, have a set of box spanners or long sockets because, there is a hidden nut that is inside the scuttle that holds the dash in the centre. Its hard to get at , i used a box spanner to do the job. I did the job on my MkI Xantia, started at 11am and car back on road at 6pm, eat before you start the job.....

Wow... triple post!

Thanks Paul for the tip, it's a job that's probably beyond me, but I hope I can do it in tandem with our local Citroen guru, so if there is a next time I might be able to do it myself.

K-Seal has so far plugged the leak.. but I've got a bad feeling in my waters

Maybe do the job in triple...

I'm just waiting for nice weather before doing mine in the 2.1. It's holding with Bars Leaks at the moment.

Thanks for the tip about the hidden nut Paul :)
