ZX handbrake cable question

Unread post by Gaskin »

Quick question. Is it possible to replace the handbrake cables on a ZX estate with drum brakes without dismantling the shoes etc?

Having spent some time trying to get them back together after cleaning self adjusters and discovering seized cable, I'd rather not have to do it all over again!

Cheers

no because i think the arm the cable attatches to is the back plate side of the shoe,

whilst you are in there make sure the tiny stainless steal blade which locks/acutates the adjuster ratchet is still in place,

because 9 times out of 10 i find this missing when working on my customers cars, if it is missing your shoes will not self adjust and will undjust them selfs,

the down side you can only buy this bit in a kit which is around £50 depending on exact model,

also pay attention to the adjusters as one side it has a left hand thread

Finally got round to replacing both cables today. So I can answer my own question. It is possible to replace the cables without dismantling the shoes etc.
It was one of those nice straightforward jobs where nothing broke, all nuts came undone easily and reassembly really was the reverse of dismantlement!
