xantia gearlever wobble

Post by jonnydrumm1967 »

Hi,can anyone help me on this?

When accelerating in 3rd or 4th my gear lever wobbles back and forth!
Power on-wobble,power off-no wobble. There are no other nasty noises, clonks or vibrations when this occours. Similarly,no thing untoward when taking up drive.
My thought was the lower engine mounting rubber on the offside

Car is a 97 model Xantia 1.9 TD.

Thanks.

Could be a worn driveshaft or the engine running unevenly under load, but that's unusual.

I'll check the engine mountings, might just replace the lower off side one anyway.

There's no roughness to the powertrain,it's very smooth, even when the lever's moving back and forwards in its gait.

Had the same problem with my old 405 td, when I replaced the long driveshaft it went away, can only really be an engine mount if you get judder when taking up drive or shunt when changing gear.
