Instrumentation woes?
I am experiencing some rather random readings from the fuel gauge on a BX19 TGD. I have noticed that the instrument lights dim when the brake lights go on. Have I one of the renowned BX unearthlinesses or do they all behave like this?

First thing to try is to see if you can blow through the pipe from the motor end. Disconnect the pipe from the motor and see if anything comes out of the jet If not you have a blockage. work the switch. does the motor buzz? is it the correct motor? If this works then run the motor and see if anything comes from the motor if not weak or blocked pump. If the connections to the motor are the originals then ok but if they have been replaced, they may have been reversed. Then reconnect the pipe to the motor and see if the jet sprays.
Tom - I'm spennding an "interesting" time with a new BX trying to figure out the fuel gauge reading's relation to normality. I've also seen gauges on other BXs showing bone-dry , yet in reality there was 20 litres-plus still in the tank.
What you might find is that the contacts for the sender are corroded.
They sit in a damp-and-dust-trap under the rear seat under the further-forward of two sander-sized black plastic discs. The sender itself seems to be nothing more sophisticated than a metal cylinder with a small hole in the bottom.
