Hi all went to start xant up today and battery was dead its been sat un run for 4 weeks so i can understand battery been dead but on attempting to start it the rev counter went round past 90 and wont go back to 0 even though i now got battery re charged and car running is this a common thing

Have you tried tap the instrument cluster to free off the needle :?:

Its more or less a wellknown standard problem on PSA instruments of this vintage.

You have two option's, either remove the instrument panel (23 screw's!) or poke a thin piece of wire through the trip reset button to flick the needle back.
As Anders states this is a common problem on S2 Xantia's.

I have tried the nudge but not the wire and it is a mk2 xant but never done this before when battery was low so will see what hapens
