I just acquired a set of original Alloys for my 1999 SX HDI - they are identical to the ones on my 2000 Exclusive. However... The bolts will only turn a couple of revolutions before tightening?? On the Exclusive they turn a good 7 or 8 revs before tightening.
The bolts are identical in length and diameter - thread etc... They have a tapered seat and a flat washer face on the backside of the bolt which sits against the alloy wheel when tightened.
What am I missing here
Great to see the forum back here again!

Have you checked the length of the bolts, are they the original ones supplied with the wheels? There are different lengths available, for instance Peugoet 306 alloys use a bolt which looks the same until you compare them alongside Xantia ones which are longer.

Loads of bolt specs in the Krooklock catalogue published by Quinton Hazell.
Some alloy seats are flat, some tapered - beware.

Yeah they are identical in every respect. I also tried the bolts from my Exclusive to be sure but with the same result.... I have tried all four wheels and they are all the same.DickieG wrote:Have you checked the length of the bolts, are they the original ones supplied with the wheels? Any ideas anyone?
Thanks! Chris.

Chris. Have you actually got square shoulder bolts on a wheel that requires
60 degree taper bolts? I've got wheels on a VSX that use tapered shoulder
bolts and an Activa that uses square shoulder and the two types cannot be
swapped between the wheels. The threads will be the same but the reach
will be different. I wouldn't drive any distance with the wrong bolts!!

On further investigation - they do indeed require different bolts - even though the wheels are identical in every other respect.
It looks as though these wheels require a bolt with no taper and a flat shoulder. Question is - what length should the thread be? I've clocked these on eBay and wondered if they would be the correct length?

Certainly from measuring the fit on the tapered bolts - these would drive in a further 10 - 12 mm...
Thanks again!

Thnx that would be great!! The listing from ebay was for 16 bolts - and they have a thread length of 35mm which I think would be about right?andmcit wrote:Hi Chris.
That sounds about right. I'm happy to measure the threaded length and get
the general dimensions for you but it'll have to be at home a bit later on.
Mind, you'll only need 16 for the Xantia, or 12 if you use locking bolts!!

The length of protruding bolt from the head's square shoulder to it's end is
40mm. There's a shank/shoulder at the head so the threaded section off
the end is effectively 25mm and there's a loose but captive washer 3mm
thick and 30mm diameter. That'd equate to a rough area the head is
recessed into on an alloy.
