xantia 1994 1.9d lx (chevrons on bonnet) some minor faults

Unread post by admiral51 »

hi
just aquired a 1994 1.9d lx non A/C for the princely sum of £250 inc 4 months test and 2 tax so not expecting a stunner and its done 171000

it has a few niggles which i have listed below
1.both front doors have stays busted off body
2.sunroof u/s no click from switch/relay
3.no keyfobs although alarm system present(think i have a solution)
4.strange noise from near acc sphere every 15 secs or so
5.has a partial repaint/laquer that is the pits peeling as if it was clingfilm in places
suggestions for the above problems
1.are they difficult to replace arms have snapped about 4mm from body
2.sunroof will move with handle not sure where relay is located will try a spare window switch first in case switch faulty
3.removed known good sensor from my other xantia and my keyfob works in this car so assume everything ok just need spare fob as i have a spare sensor in the loft :)
5.will a really good t cut then polish save the laquer or is it a heavier compound job
i know this is out of sequence and should be first but here goes
4.got £100 knocked off price as i wasnt 100% sure if this could be major or just the acc sphere (Jim i did do as you said and everything on the list worked as it should  )
level of lhm seemed a bit high and when i checked it here i took 2.26litres(4 pints) out of resevoir before it sat between the lines
now i get a click every 15 secs or so but it seems more of a pressure release than a normal click/tick and checking on its last mot it had an advisory of a noisy steering pump slight leakage which i wasnt told about  .its had a new HP in last 7 months but will this be more than just the acc sphere

its all a bit long winded but best get it over with in one go
and the worst bit its got a lucas pump but that can wait till after xmas :(

cheers colin

Didn't know you could get lucas pump on the 1.9td, sorry to hear of that misfortune... other than that, seems a good car for the money.

Sunroof relays an easy one.
Its on the drivers side in the little panel you take off to get to the manual sunroof winder.
To access it you have to remove the catches for the sunflaps and pull down the headliner at the front, its not glued or clipped else where so don't worry.
Its a red relay on a neat little clip, you won't miss it with the headliner hanging.
Make sure the roof is free to move before you replace it, mine melted the first spare as there was to much resistance in the roof.

As regards the strange noise from the Acc sphere, I take it the car is pre/non antisink? If so then those earlier models do commonly produce a prolonged whirr-buzz-click noise as the pump recharges the system.

Lacquer lifting sounds like a repaint job.

I take it that it's a non turbo 1.9D, in that case a Lucas pump is not unusual.
