I have recently bought a lowish mileage 1.9 Xantia TD SX I put a few tanks of diesel through it and was getting about 44 mpg is this the norm or should I get more. I am now running on 50/50 SVO and diesel and the mpg has dropped down to about 39mpg. I thought SVo made little or no difference to the mpg. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated as i would like to get the mipg up if I can.

44mpg is/was good for an IDI engine in such a heavy car, mpg will drop a bit because of the way it burns, the oil is thicker than diesel so does not atomise so well, although it does get heated up by the fuel filter heater it will still be a higher viscosity, you also find yourself putting your foot down more because it costs you less
Use a thinner engine oil like i will be doing shortly, ensure the air filter is clean and the tyres pumped up to the correct pressures will help claw back 2-3 mpg...
