2003 C5 2.0 HDi Brkes Screech

My C5 makes a terrible screeching noise as it comes to a halt as I brake.
It seems worse when the weather is dry. It has done about 35000 miles. There are no warnings that the pads are worn. Can anybody suggest what the fault might be and how i could solve it? JSGJ

Yes well known problem. It'll be the pads iv'e just had to change mine even though the pads had loads left on them.On mine it was the rear ones making the noise, dead easy to change takes about 30 minutes to do both sides cost £18. I also did the front ones too cost £25 front takes longer.

It may well be due to corrosion between the aluminuim caliper and the suspension arm as found on Xantia's, I've recently heard of this becoming an issue on C5's.

The corrosion causes the caliper to sit at an angle and the pads to wear unevenly causing a squeal in the process. For further details/pictures the following link (in French) gives good detail. http://activaclubfrance.free.fr/Entreti ... Xantia.pdf

I got an awful metal-metal noise within just a few days and assumed it was the front pads worn - on inspection, they were almost new. It was the rears - totally padless, just thin metal plates in the shape of a pad :x
