Xantia struts - again

Unread post by NiSk »

Im due to help a neighbour change one of the front strut tops on his '95 Xantia 16V. It has Hydroactive suspension and the diameter of the piston rod is 22mm. Does anyone know which year models will fit this car? I have read that Citroen changed the size of the piston rod sometime (as they did with the XM), so its important to get the right size.

Hi NiSk

I had this problem with my XM, in fact I found three different sizes! Eventually had to get a complete secondhand strut. As long as it has the top is with it, the size doesn't matter as I believe otherwise the struts are all the same.

Hi,

I think there are only 3 types of xantia strut top.

i) For the early and very rare non power steering cars

ii) The Activia type - Larger diameter strut rod

ii) The one that fits all the rest.

regards

Hmmm . . . there is also non hydractive and hydractive - they have totally different hydraulic pipe connections. This one has hydractive. I was concerned about the size of the cone on the top of the piston rod. This differs on the XM.

Ah, apologies, I had forgotton about the hydraulics, all XMs are hydractive so that limits the options a bit
