xantia leaking LHM

Help please!

Its the first time my car has leaked LHM, so im in the dark. Am i now classed as a true Citroen owner.

It appears to be leaking from a component in the top left hand corner of the engine (as with the bonnet up-looking at it)

In Haynes it looks like the doseur valve picture, 4 metal pipes and 2 rubber ones going into it.

From what i can see the top rubber pipe is leaking. I have taken off the clip it and refitted this appears to have slowed the leaking down as well as turning off the STOPlights. Therefore it’s a tad better. its not leaking into the car

has anyone has this experience and how much is this pipe, it leads back to the reservoir.

Yep, that is the Doseur valve. The pipe in question is one of the leakage returns and it runs straight back to the LHM reservoir.

Most likely it is split where it joins onto the Doseur valve spigot but it could be that the Doseur is leaking excessively and the pressure is too much for the pipe.

I don't know exactly what symptoms excessive leakage will cause as I've not personally experienced a duff Doseur but from reading on here, failure is quite unusual. I'm very sure Mandrake or another of our hydraulic specialists will soon put you right.

I'd be tempeted to substitute a temporary pipe and run it into a jamjar and see how much LHM runs out of it. I'd expect no more than a dribble. Again, someone will soon give more accurate information than I can.

If it is really leaking badly, I'd expect the accumulator tick-rate to be a bit rapid and also for the stop light to take a bit of time to go off after an overnight rest. I'd also expect the hydraulics to fail the "sit in the boot" test if the Doseur is really bad.

Hopefully, it is just a split pipe.

the ticking rate is IRO 2-3 minutes betweeen ticks, the stop takes around 10 secs to go off in the morning. and the boot test works- often twice.

i think the suspension is generally in good condition- now with fresh lHM too!

how are these pipes supplied?- do i need to buy the whole pipe back to the tank?

It will probabally be nothing more than a rotten return pipe, this is fairly common as the pipe crazes with age and then splits.

The job of fixing is quite simple but a little fiddley due to lack of room, you will need to cut the pipe back to the next good piece of rubber down along the run and then use a piece of plastic or steel tube to go inside, then carry on to the brake valve with a new piece of pipe.

To fix it you can use fuel pipe and I think that about 6mm inside diamiter is about right, any pipe that is used for petrol, oil or diesel will be fine with LHM.

if you lucky you will be able to just cut the bad bit off and there might be plenty of pipe still to fit it straight back were it goes

all done, someone came round and fitted a new pipe for £20
