Yesterday I started the car from cold, drove a few miles and then parked up leaving the engine idling. (Normally, the gauge will read about 72 when driving over 40mph, sometimes higher if giving it a thrashing etc). As expected, the idling had the temp creeping up to the 80+ mark where the engine note changed and it began dropping back to 75 etc - this fluctation repeated itself once or twice over a 20 minute period (as I've come to expect). When it came to driving away, the temp was at the higher reading of 80+ and when I floored it in 2nd I could have sworn the pickup was sharper and the acceleration harder and smoother.
Was it my imagination or is it something to do with the semi-automatic influence the ECU has over my bosch mechanical pump?
Coolant temp related to HP?

Warmer engine will perform better than a colder engine for various reasons, one of them will be oil drag, when the oil is thicker its harder for the engine to turn, also i've noticed a difference when running veggie, the fuel is now thicker and doesnt atomise aswell until the coolant/engine temperature has fully warmed up.
This time of year the intercooler/induction wont be affected so much by heat soak too, when idling for long periods of time when we had 2 hot days this year i noticed it was flatter on acceleration until fresher air came along
