Fiddly is the word that comes to mind.

Remove the radio surround panel (two torx 20 screws underneath) then the radio and it's plastic housing that it screws into. You then lift up the black plastic lid on the heater control, now the fiddly bit. Unplug the connection wire then position the heater slider controls into such a way that you can lift out the black plastic lamp-holder.

The annoying bit is that the bulbs are basically the small dash bulbs (R286 IIRC) held in a black holder, however you need to buy the complete bulb and holder as the bulb wire is welded/soldered to the connection pads. Normal R286 bulbs are also too long to fit into the heater control panel.

I'll show you on Sunday if you haven't got it sorted by then.

i had the same trouble with mine and they are fiddly to get out i got replacements from cit dealer as they are across the road from me i think they are £1.83+vat

the bracket for them is very fiddly to get back in without knocking the bulbs and then they dont work once you clip it in place you have to take it out and try again :( :(

make sure you take one with you cos they will try and sell you the other dash bulbs

When you get the heater control panel off, give your current bulbs a wiggle.
They may be ok and just not making contact with the tracks.

Thinking about it, it could just be loose connections, as its only stopped since i've taken the radio out a few times...

I would say it's bad connections too. The two xantia's I had that intermittent heating control bulbs, they worked randomly. good luck.

dnsey......What l.e.d's would be suitable in this situation.Sounds like a good long term solution since these led's are (as I'm led to believe) longer lasting than the the normal average lamps? Its something I'm inclined to do myself.
