thermostat housing ZX

Post by ale2104p »

There is water seeping right under the Thermo housing, is there are gasket or can I use a liquid gasket maker to solve that problem. The thermo it self has been changed but I still have a small water leak.
Thanks for any help.

Yes - there is a gasket between the mating faces on the thermostat housing. It should be renewed each time the joint is broken.

If it is a Turbo Diesel, then it should have an ring fitted around the thermostat rim to seal it into the cast housing and plastic hose housing not a gasket. The ring normally comes it, as part of the kit.

I agree with Sooty - our 1.9 diesel has a plastic housing cover, no gasket and a sealing ring around the thermostat itself. When I changed the thermostat I was supplied with a thin gasket. The old gasket was thick and I was lucky to find an accessory shop which holds a stock of them. Refitting the old gasket was no use as it leaked gently.
Incidentally the current recommendation seems to be 80c and not 90 or so as recommended by Haynes. The heater seems fine.
The only good thing about the excercise is that I'm now very good at bleeding the thing. (I use a gallon plastic old antifreeze container and invert it into the filler cap with NO additional sealing, and simply squeeze to bleed the top pipe by the brake cylinder.)
