C5 2.2 HDI down to 2.0 HDI

Post by rolphy1975 »

hi everyone, my dad has a 2.2 hdi sx C5 on a 2001 plate with about 75000 on the clock and is looking at changing it and has found a very late 2003 model C5 2.0hdi which is in the exclusive SE trim with leather interior built in sat nav, basicly the works. its done more miles than his because it has been a business car and has a full Citroen service history and recent cam belt change.

my main question is what is the drop in power/performance like between the two models as the 2.2 is 135bhp and the 2.0 is 110bhp. where is the power drop most noticeable etc etc .

I would be asking myself if it was worth changing for the sake of a car two years younger, but more miles on the clock. Unless there's big trouble on the horizon I would keep what I've got. Better the devil you know!

i know what you are saying, there isnt anything wrong with the C5 he has but the spec on this one caught his eye and has gained his interest as it is a much higher level of trim than his current car and i suppose he's after a little bit more luxury  now hes getting on a bit. (sorry to all you people in your late fifties :D ). just more curious about the difference in power delivery and so forth!

Power?
What power?
My 2-litre petrol (non citroen  other car) leaves the C5 2.2hdi for dead- in terms of response and power anywhere in the rev-range.And it does similar economy.
So don't worry - can't be that much worse can it?

(erm, this is meant to be tongue in cheek)

his 2.2 hdi is pretty quick all through the rev range and given a good boot plays tricks with the traction control. i felt it was a rather pokey car being a diesel and all that and has bucket loads of go from pullaway to the top of the power band !!!. but if that is the case is the 2.0hdi a lot worse????

In all seriousness, I think I might have a bit of a duff example, I've certainly never bothered the traction control with my right boot!
Most of the comments I've seen the forums seem to rate the 2.0 hdi. My father-in-laws' xsara (110bhp) is definitely quite zippy.[/i]

cheers monkeyfeet, i think he will go for the 2.0 hdi and sell the 2.2 on. anyone got any ideas how much his private plates are worth as a re-sale because he is not bothered about keeping them (C5 GKB).
i dont think he will notice much difference in power

In my Xantia the 2.0 HDi goes very well but I must admit I find our C5 with the same engine a bit sluggish. The C5 scraped through its emissions test on an average of 2.98 and the Xantia got a "Fast Pass" on 0.81 so maybe my wife's habit of using supermarket fuel is taking its toll.

I can't compare the two but my 2004 C5 2.0hdi VTX Auto is nippy enough for me and feels very robust through the gears. I also love the trim and find it a very comfortable car. Just wish the gearbox was the newer 6 speed!

thanks for all the replies peeps. the current C5 he has is in the sx trim and is quite nice inside with a decent quality finish but the one he is looking at has full leather trim with factory fitted colour sat nav electric seats with heating. adaptor to run dvd player through the sat nav screen and all the other guff that people dont really need but like to say that there car has . Maybe its mid life crisis . lol. just hope its all he expects it will be!!!!!!!!
