C5 2.0HDI. 100,000 Ml SERVICE

Post by jmd »

I am aware that the Timing Belt, should be changed at this time ( the car has actually 90,000 miles covered) also the LDF Fluid. Has anybody carried out such a service, or are there any pitfalls. I believe a kit can be had for this, but I dont know what the kit consists of. I presume that it would be prudent to renew the water pump, when doing the belt. How does one go about changing the LDF Fluid. Any advise would be appreciated.

That's an unusual beast - a 1.9 C5?

That's exactly what I was thinking! Surely it's a 2.0i HDi?

Then you will be forgiven 8)

I'm no expert on the C5, I would add to your list of jobs... tensioner pulleys, I hope it's not a stupid price like it was on the 2.1td.

Now I will sit back and let someone who knows guide you...

Good luck anyway.

Thanks Deian. Anders- I am more interested in an answer to my question, and am aware of the designation of the Fluid. " How does one go about changing the LDs Fluid. Any advise would be appreciated?".

OK -
I have no hands on experience on a C5.
Try do a search on the issue using a few different keywords related to the work process.
Its been discussed how you release the pressure on a C5, which was definately not as dangerous and frightening as depicted in some Citroen work descriptions.

As with all HA type suspensions, you must have the engine idle while you set the suspension to low, to get most possible fluid returned to the reservoir.
Also the good old Citaerobics still applies to dilute remnants of old fluid in the system after the fluid service.

Note that the C5 brakes are a separate system of conventional design using separate conventional DOT type brake fluid.

Have a look here:-

Click on C5; bring up the pdf and go to the chapter on hydraulics. It gives a lot of help both with and without computer assistance.

My C5 110Hdi is coming towards its 100k mile service and have just been qouted £650 for replacing the cambelt by a Citroen main dealer.
I think I'll trust the service history I have which says it was changed at 50k along with the head gasket. Don't know what went wrong with it back then, must have been pretty annoying at such low miles!!
Compared to the current value I think I'll chance my arm on the history being correct.

Hi jmd, I had my cam belt replaced about 2 months ago and the cost was about £250 the most of it was labour costs :( I also had my suspension given the (5 year or 120 mile service also) but the later is not required if your system has not been opened. I had a job to track down the info but six dealers later and Citroens tech boy and a misleading web info I finally got it strait the suspension dose not require a service at 5years or 120 miles if the system has not been opened. But don’t quote me as it my have changed again and I would have been £60 better off. :(

Hope this is some help for you,

SandyD.

re Brake Fluid. I don't believe the brake fluid is the conventional DOT as it is specified I believe from memory 'E'. Anyway the specification is for synthetic fluid.

Thank to everybody who contributed. I've ordered the "timing belt kit" which is to be here this week. I checked the LDS Level, it took almost a Litre to bring the level up to the Minimum Mark on the tank
