Rear brakes on 406
I was reading a website which lists problems likely to be found on used cars. Of the 406 it said check the rear brakes because it had discs , pads and "shoes". It was suggested that one should allow £850 for this if the car had exceeded 50k. What is this all about please?
Re: Rear brakes on 406
A 406 with rear disc brakes does have discs, pads & "shoes".The shoes are the handbrake, they push againts the inside of the disc mounting on the hub side(like a drum).I`ve got to look at mine as they only just pasted the MOT yesterday. The handbrake has been getting worse over the last few months,& the discs are 76k old,so have a fair old lip on them now.howzat wrote:Of the 406 it said check the rear brakes because it had discs , pads and "shoes"

AFAIK the 406 has multilink rear suspension. It's only the 106/205/309/306/405 that have the infamous rubbish needle roller bearings on the axle tube.elma wrote:Is that the rear arm bearing problem?
Like all car "look out for these problems" websites, they're quoting PSA prices, and PSA labour rates to change absolutely everything.
I can imagine changing rear discs, pads, shoes and calipers and so on, along with Labour rates at a london Peugeot garage could well cost £850.
This is not a signature.
I replaced all my 406 discs/ pads hbrake shoes last year. Don't bother with rear hand brake kit at £94 I just cleaned up old stuck adjusters worked fine. about £175 the lot.
